How are Our Children Doing?
35% of the children in our community are vulnerable in at least one aspect of their development, by senior kindergarten, based on the 2008-09 EDI results for Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
According to Dr. Clyde Hertzman, a child vulnerability rate above 10% is
biologically unnecessary.
Early Development Instrument (EDI); What is the EDI?
The 2005-06 EDI Baseline Maps were produced by the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) - University of British Columbia (refer to Presentation below). These maps are the baseline maps for our community; future rounds of EDI results
will identify changes by neighbourhood. During the 2005-06 EDI, 32% of the children in our community were vulnerable in their development, by senior kindergarten.
