Communities Together for Children

Additional ways to find child care that's right for you!

Many families have found quality child care through the Child Care Connection.

These families were able to connect with providers who were located in their areas and who were able to provide the type and quality of care they were looking for.

Unfortunately, not every family will meet with instant success. If you find yourself at a loss of what to do next, the following information may be helpful to you:

Word of mouth is one of the best ways of letting people know what you are looking for. Talking to friends, co-workers, neighbours and clergy will assist you in connecting with a variety of people.

Place an ad in a neighbourhood school newsletter and/or speak to the secretary or principal. Many times, there are potential care-givers in your area, you just don't know about them.

Church bulletins are sometimes great for making contacts with woman who haven't thought about childcare, but are willing to try it when they see someone in their area is seeking assistance.

Community centres and parent & tot drop-in programs - this will target moms who stay at home with their own children.

Recreational activities are all meeting places where adults can talk and exchange ideas on such things as child care. Often you will talk to someone who knows of someone else that may be interested.

Flyers distributed in your neighbourhood may result in child care with a neighbour from down the street.

Networking - many child care providers are in networks. If you know a provider, mention to them you are looking, and they may know of someone who could help out. In Thunder Bay, the local Home Child Care Network can be reached by calling (807) 473-3822.
